The Phases of Disruption now has a new subtitle and I couldn’t be more excited to share it. It’s now The Phases of Disruption: The Path of Black Moon Lilith. Every book and every phase was written through her lens. If you’ve ever felt a fierce, undeniable part of yourself that refuses to be controlled or made small, a rebellious streak that doesn’t do well with authority, this is the lens that explains why.

Black Moon Lilith isn’t a planet or an asteroid. She is a calculated point in your birth chart, and that makes her one of the most misunderstood placements in astrology.

Here’s the easy way to understand her. The Moon doesn’t orbit Earth in a perfect circle. It travels in an oval. Black Moon Lilith is the empty focal point of that orbit, the direction in which the Moon swings farthest from Earth. It’s a place with nothing physically there, which is exactly what makes it powerful. She represents the part of you that exists in the void, beyond what’s visible, acceptable, or easily explained.

She moves through each zodiac sign in about nine months, so her sign in your chart tells you a lot about how your raw, untamed energy shows up. Her house placement shows where in life it happens.

Her name comes from the figure of Lilith in ancient folklore, who is said to have refused to submit to Adam and walked away rather than be made smaller. Whatever you believe about the mythology, the symbol has endured for centuries for one reason. She is the energy of “I will not be controlled.”

In astrology, Black Moon Lilith represents:

  • The shadow self, the parts of you that were pushed down, hidden, or labeled “too much”
  • Repressed rage and the anger that never got a safe place to land
  • Refusal to conform to rules, roles, and expectations that don’t fit your truth
  • Raw sovereignty, the instinct to belong to yourself first
  • Primal desire, instinct, and the unfiltered truth of what you actually want
  • The wound of being rejected, silenced, or punished for being exactly who you are

She is not the polished version of you. She is the one underneath it. Raw feminine energy.

Lilith lives in all of us! Every human has a version of this energy, the part of us that got told to be quieter, softer, easier, more agreeable, less intense. Maybe you learned to swallow your anger. Maybe you learned that speaking your truth cost you love, so you learned to perform instead.

That’s the energy Lilith represents, and here’s what I want you to understand:

Her energy isn’t the problem. Her unprocessed, suppressed state is.

When we suppress this energy, it doesn’t disappear. It goes to the underworld and comes back up fiery:

  • Rage that explodes at the wrong person or turns inward as self-criticism
  • Resentment that builds quietly in relationships where you keep shrinking
  • Self-sabotage right when you’re about to step into something bigger
  • A sense of being too much and not enough at the same time
  • A restless feeling that something in you is caged

This is Lilith’s shadow side. She’s been silenced for so long that when this energy comes out of survival mode, it’s explosive, terrifying, and liberating.

Think of the part of you that refuses to be controlled and the part of you that has never fully surrendered, the one that kept nudging you even when you were doing everything “right.” That quiet refusal is Lilith.

A few journal prompts to end on:

  • What part of you has been told you’re “too much”? Where do you feel that in your body?
  • What’s one thing in your life you refuse to be controlled about?
  • If that refusal became a goal, what would it be?
  • Lilith asks: Is this mine? Or is this installed?

Next week I will talk about Lilith’s shadow side, wounded side, and light side.
